College Persistence Manager at KIPP Northern California

Alissa Gordon has a diverse work experience in the nonprofit sector. Alissa began their career at The Health Trust as a Meals on Wheels Program Coordinator, where they managed meal delivery and customer service for senior citizens. Alissa then joined Georgetown University's Meyers Institute for College Preparation as a High School Coordinator, providing college preparation support to low-income high school students.

After that, Alissa worked at Horton's Kids as an AmeriCorps VISTA, where they created and managed an after-school program for at-risk high school youth, and later became a Program Specialist, overseeing tutoring programs and enrichment activities for children.

Alissa then moved on to KIPP DC, where they served as an Alumni Counselor, supporting KIPP alumni in high school and guiding them through the college application process.

Next, Alissa joined KIPP Bay Area Schools as an Alumni and Career Advisor, providing academic and financial advising, career readiness support, and growing the Alumni Internship Program.

Currently, they work at KIPP Public Schools Northern California as a College Persistence Manager, where they manage alumni advisors, coaches them through various aspects of advising, and supports college students through academic and financial advising, career readiness, and social and emotional well-being.

In addition to their nonprofit work, Alissa volunteered for the GEARS & Girls Agro-Investment Project (GAIN) in Uganda, teaching computer skills and creating tools for a program aimed at empowering out-of-school girls.
