Luis Garcia Rico

Luis Garcia Rico has a diverse range of work experience. Luis started their career as an Undergraduate Research Fellow for the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program in 2009. From 2011-2012, they worked as a Reader for USC Readers PLUS, teaching reading to students and tutoring in an after-school program. In 2012, they served as an Assistant Field Organizer for the Lois Capps for Congress and Bill Monning for State Senate campaigns, managing volunteers and coordinating outreach efforts. Luis then became a Field Organizer for the Emanuel Pleitez for LA Mayor campaign in 2012-2013, where they implemented field plans and served as a personal assistant to Emanuel Pleitez. In 2013, they were an Organizer for the Lots of People for Eric Garcetti campaign, implementing field plans and contributing to the independent expenditure campaign supporting Eric Garcetti's mayoral candidacy. Luis also worked as a Manager at Peach Tree Inn during this time. From 2014-2016, Luis was a Corp Member for Teach For America, receiving intensive teacher training and implementing comprehensive student mastery strategies as a classroom teacher. Luis then became a Bilingual Teacher for Spring Branch ISD from 2014-2019, creating and implementing comprehensive and differentiated lesson plans for multiple subjects. Most recently, Luis worked as a 6th Grade Math Teacher for KIPP Public Schools Northern California, where they created and implemented lesson plans, analyzed classroom data, and developed a positive classroom management system.

Luis Garcia Rico completed their education at the University of Southern California from 2007 to 2011, where they pursued a double major in Political Science and American Studies, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. Prior to that, they attended Nipomo High School from 2003 to 2007, receiving a general education.
