Matthew Gilchrist

Matthew Gilchrist is an accomplished academic administrator and educator with extensive experience in higher education. Currently serving as the Dean of Communication, English, Media, and Library Services at Kirkwood Community College since June 2022, Matthew previously held the position of Director of Writing at Western Illinois University from July 2021 to June 2022. Matthew's prior roles include Lecturer in Business and Director of the Rauch Center for Business Communications at Lehigh University, as well as Associate Professor of Instruction at the University of Iowa. There, Matthew contributed to curriculum design and digital integration while teaching courses in rhetoric, writing, and pedagogy. Matthew also directed the Iowa Digital Engagement and Learning initiative, focusing on curricular innovation and establishing a tutoring resource center. Matthew holds a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Culture (Digital Literacy) and an MFA in Fiction from the University of Iowa, along with a BA in English from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
