Matthew is a Senior Project Mechanical Engineer, who has been with Kleinschmidt for over 21 years. Matthew is registered in three states and specializes in the evaluation and design of hydroelectric generating equipment, the design/construction of hydroelectric power-stations, and the design of fish passage facilities. Matt’s equipment experience includes completing finite element analysis models and designs for trash-rakes, turbine brakes, wicket gate/operating mechanisms, spillway gates, penstocks, and integrating lifting mechanisms. He was the lead engineer for the feasibility, design, and onsite equipment installation/commissioning for one of the largest recent hydro-development projects in the United States.

Non-design activities have included the performance of upgrade feasibility studies, pumped storage concept development, inspection and evaluation of turbine equipment, due diligence studies, bid evaluations, turbine efficiency testing, and ultrasonic penstock and gate inspections. Other related projects have included HVAC design; oil-water separator retrofits; crane procurement/electrification; rail installation; floating bulkhead design; pumped storage development feasibility; slice-gate actuator design; bascule gate design; wicket gate design; vacuum valve replacement; penstock inspection platform design evaluation; tainter gate structural analysis; mechanical power transmission design; and remote acoustic flow measurement.
