Huib Bakker is a Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam since 2001 and has served as a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences (KNAW) since April 2015. Additionally, Huib Bakker has been the Director of AMOLF, part of the NWO Institutes, since September 2015 and has held various leadership roles at FOM Instituut AMOLF since 1995, including Group Leader and Department Head. Huib Bakker's academic career also includes a position as Wissenschaftlicher Assistent at RWTH Aachen from 1991 to 1994. Huib Bakker earned a Master's degree in Chemistry from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and completed post-doctoral research in Physics at RWTH Aachen University.

De Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen is forum, geweten en stem van de Nederlandse wetenschap. Vanuit een onafhankelijke positie bewaakt zij de kwaliteit en de belangen van de wetenschap en adviseert zij de regering. Zij is verantwoordelijk voor vijftien instituten die met hun onderzoek en collecties tot de (inter)nationale top behoren.
