Nico-Jan Hoogma

Director of Top Football at Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB)

Nico-Jan Hoogma studied mechanical engineering at the HTS from 1987 to 1992 in Leeuwarden. He combined this training with a life as a semi-professional at the professional football club from the Frisian capital, SC Cambuur. At the same time as obtaining his diploma, he promoted to the Eredivisie with SC Cambuur.

Not much later he made a transfer to FC Twente. In Enschede he played a total of six seasons, after which he continued his international career in 1998 - again for six seasons - at the German HSV in Hamburg. The last two years of his active football career he played for Heracles Almelo, the club with which he won the championship of the Jupiler League in 2005.

The player from Overijssel was captain of every club and has a total of 525 league matches in professional football and 22 European matches - including with HSV in the Champions League - to his name.

After retiring as a player in 2006, he became general / technical manager at Heracles Almelo. In January 2007 he was promoted to general / technical director of the club, a position he held until March 1, 2018, after which he switched to the KNVB.

Hoogma lives with his wife and two of their three children in Oldenzaal. Son Justin plays football at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and lives in Heidelberg (Germany).
