AWELE AKEMU

With over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, Awele is a seasoned business leader known for strategic vision and operational excellence.

As the Acting CEO/MD of Koins Microfinance Bank, she is responsible for setting the Bank's strategic direction, driving financial growth, managing risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Awele is skilled at inspiring and leading cross-functional teams, fostering a positive organizational culture, and navigating market dynamics to drive innovation. Her expertise spans retail, commercial, and microfinance banking.

She holds a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and is an alumna of the Lagos Business School’s Senior Management Programme (SMP). Awele has also completed several professional development courses, including Building High-Performance Teams, Coaching Emotionally Intelligent Teams, Total Quality Management, and Anti-Money Laundering. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).

Before joining Koins Microfinance Bank, Awele spent 11 years at GTBank Plc, where she held strategic roles in Retail, Commercial Banking, and Operations, culminating in her position as Head of the Transaction Services Unit.
