Liang Tao, PhD, MBA, has extensive work experience in various industries. Liang is currently working as the Principal of Battery Strategy Battery Cell Engineering at Rivian since August 2021. Prior to that, they served as the Head of Business Development, Business Intelligence, Market Analysis, and Data Science at Townsend Solutions from September 2019 to July 2021. In this role, they led a global operations team and focused on sustainability and circular economy subjects, global sales and e-business marketing, and artificial intelligence.

Before joining Townsend Solutions, Liang worked at Albemarle Corporation from May 2013 to September 2019. Liang held several positions including China Business Development and Sales Director, Global Business Analyst Lead, and Corporate Development and M&A Manager. In these roles, they performed market data and financial modeling functions, led new product market development, and conducted due diligence for M&A projects.

Prior to their time at Albemarle Corporation, Liang worked as a Research Associate at Munich-Centre for Advanced Photonics from September 2010 to February 2012. There, they focused on developing models to simulate electron behavior in laser technology research and analyzed large amounts of data.

Additionally, Liang worked as a Research Associate at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from August 2008 to July 2010. In this position, they programmed supercomputers to model chemical reactions and optimize parallel algorithms.

Overall, Liang Tao has a diverse background in business development, market analysis, data science, and research, with a particular focus on sustainability, circular economy, and battery technology.

Liang Tao has a diverse education history that spans over several years. From 1997 to 2001, they attended Sun Yat-sen University where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Material Physics. Following this, from 2002 to 2007, Liang Tao enrolled at the University of Maryland and successfully completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemical Physics. To expand their knowledge and expertise, they then pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from 2012 to 2014, specializing in International Business and Energy at Tulane University.
