Derek Bacigal

Derek Bacigal has a diverse work experience in facilities management and engineering. Derek is currently the Director of Facilities at Kukio Golf and Beach Club Inc. Prior to that, they worked as a Principal at Akamai Facilities Consulting. Derek also served as the Director of Engineering at Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii and as a Lecturer at the University of Hawaii-West Oahu. Derek's extensive experience includes working as the Director of Engineering at Hale Koa Hotel, where they were responsible for overseeing all facilities engineering operations and project management. Derek worked as a Project Manager at Hyatt Hotels Corporation, handling tenant improvement and property improvement projects. Derek also served as an Assistant Facilities Manager at CBRE - Dow Global Headquarters and as an intern at Boeing, where they managed construction projects and implemented design standards. Derek's early career involved working for the State of Michigan in design and construction management roles.

Derek Bacigal has a diverse education history. Derek obtained a Master Certificate in Business Leadership & Management from Michigan State University - Eli Broad College of Business in 2019. Prior to that, they pursued Hotel Real Estate Investments and Asset Management at Cornell University from 2017 to 2018. In 2015 to 2016, they earned a Master's degree in Systems Design and Project Leadership from Cornell University's College of Engineering. Derek'sundergraduate studies were completed at Ferris State University, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Facilities Management from the College of Engineering in 2013. Derek also earned an Associate of Applied Science in Architectural Technology & Residential Design from Lansing Community College in 2011.

Additionally, Derek Bacigal has obtained several certifications related to their field. Derek received the Facilities Engineering I certification from the Defense Acquisition University in September 2020. In June 2019, they became a Certified Pool and Spa Inspector (CPI) through the National Swimming Pool Foundation/WAHC. Derek holds a Certified Chief Engineer (CCE) designation from the National Association of Hotel & Lodging Engineers, obtained in January 2018. Furthermore, they are a Certified Hospitality Facilities Executive (CHFE) certified by the American Hotel & Lodging Association since October 2017. In June 2017, they became a Certified Director of Engineering (CDOE) through The National Association of Hotel & Lodging Engineers. Derek also possesses an EPA 608 Certification - Universal from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) obtained in May 2017 and a Facility Management Professional (FMP) certification from IFMA obtained in March 2017. Derek has obtained a Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO) certification from the National Swimming Pool Foundation in March 2016. Lastly, they have completed additional courses, including Construction Quality Management from the US Army Corps of Engineers and Sustainable Facilities Professional (SFP) from IFMA.
