Tuomas Haikka

Chief Sustanability Officer at Kuusakoski Recycling

Tuomas Haikka's work experience begins in 2000 as a Manager at Taste of Scandinavia. Tuomas was accountable for managing the St. Paul Como street restaurant and bakery in Minnesota.

In 2005, Haikka worked as a Research Assistant at the Energy Market Authority where they were involved in monitoring and implementing the European Emission Trading Scheme in Finland.

Tuomas then transitioned to the University of Helsinki in 2005 as a Researcher, where they conducted research for a brief period until 2006.

From 2006 to 2007, Haikka was a Specialist at The Federation of Finnish Technology Industries.

In 2007, they joined Outokumpu, initially holding the role of Analyst-Material Value Chain & Environment. Tuomas then progressed to various leadership positions such as Vice President of Sustainability and Environment, Director of Sustainability, and Head of Strategy. Their responsibilities in these roles included overseeing sustainability and corporate responsibility initiatives, annual reporting, coordinating with ETS issues and climate change programs, and managing environmental and energy data collection and reporting.

Haikka's most recent position, starting in 2021, is as the Chief Sustainability Officer at Kuusakoski Recycling. Here, they lead sustainability, corporate responsibility, and EHSQ activities, with functional responsibility over public affairs, communications, marketing, logistics, and indirect procurement. The strategic aim is to integrate sustainability into the entire value chain of the business.

Tuomas Haikka obtained a Master of Science degree in Political Science and Economics, Communication from the University of Helsinki between 2004-2006. Tuomas also earned an M (Sc) degree in Environmental Economics from the same university from 1999-2006. In addition, they pursued Economics and Commodity Trading studies at the University of Minnesota from 2000-2001. Prior to their higher education, Haikka attended Saarijärven Lukio, although specific dates and degree information are not available for this institution.
