Lawrence Frank

President, Basketball Operations at Los Angeles Clippers

Lawrence Frank begins his fifth season with Los Angeles and his second in the position of President of Basketball Operations. A long-time NBA coaching veteran, Frank served as the team’s Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations in 2016-17 after spending the previous two seasons as an assistant coach for the Clippers.

Frank brings nearly 30 years of basketball experience to his current role of President of Basketball Operations. The New Jersey native will lead and oversee the Clippers Basketball Operations Department on a daily basis alongside Head Coach Doc Rivers. Frank also previously worked as an assistant coach under Rivers during the 2010-11 season in Boston.

In nine seasons as a head coach, Frank holds a career record of 279-335 (.454) (seven with New Jersey, two with Detroit). Over the course of his seven seasons (2004-2009) as the head coach of the Nets, Frank went 225-241 (.483) and is the Nets all-time leader in NBA coaching victories. Under Frank’s direction, New Jersey made four consecutive postseason appearances (2004-07) and won two Atlantic Division titles (2004, 2006). Frank holds an 18-20 (.474) record in the playoffs, advancing the Nets to the Eastern Conference Semi­finals in 2004, 2006 and 2007.

Frank’s NBA coaching career began in Vancouver, where he spent three seasons as an assistant under Brian Hill. Following his stint with the Grizzlies, Frank joined the Nets as an assistant coach. Serving under Head Coach Byron Scott, Frank helped lead the Nets to two Eastern Conference Championships in 2002 and 2003, marking the first NBA Finals appear­ances in franchise history.

Before moving into the NBA, Frank served as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee for three seasons under Kevin O’Neill. Frank first worked with O’Neill as a staff assistant at Marquette University in 1992, helping lead the Warriors to two NCAA Tournament berths and a Sweet 16 appearance in 1994.

Frank earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University in 1992, where he spent four seasons as a stu­dent manager for the Hoosier basketball team led by Bob Knight. In addition, Frank holds a master’s degree in education administration from Marquette University.
