Elizabeth Pittman, PhD, currently serves as an Upper School English Teacher at the Lab School of Washington since August 2025. Previously, Pittman was a Subject Expert Teacher at BASIS Independent Schools from January 2018 to August 2025, where responsibilities included coordinating Middle and High School English and advising the National Honor Society. Notable courses taught include AP Literature & Composition and an Honors Literature Seminar. Pittman's academic career includes positions as an Adjunct Professional Lecturer at American University and a Postdoctoral Fellow and Lecturer at Marymount University, where oversight of peer tutors and research in writing center administration were key roles. Pittman earned a Ph.D. in African-American/Black Studies from The George Washington University, a Master’s Degree in Literature from the University of Virginia, and a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Mary Washington.
