Aaron Kimball is CTO of Zymergen, leading a team of software engineers, data scientists, lab automation experts, computational biologists and chemists in building their technology platform. The technology department is building the data architecture, computational biology and machine learning analysis, and automated robotics-driven systems that power a manufacturing approach to genome engineering and novel material and product research.
Prior to joining Zymergen, Aaron co-founded WibiData, and was the first employee at Cloudera. He holds a BS from Cornell University and an MS from the University of Washington, both in Computer Science. In his engineering days, he was the original author of Apache Sqoop and MRUnit; and was the architect responsible for the design and oversight of Kiji, WibiData’s open source big data application middleware framework. Since joining Zymergen, he also now holds several patents on predictive modeling for microbial engineering.
