Tanja Woyke

Visiting Senior Scientist at Laboratory for Research in Complex Systems

Tanja Woyke is an accomplished microbiologist with extensive experience in various research and academic roles. Currently serving as an Adjunct Professor at the University of California, Merced, Tanja also holds the position of Deputy Director of User Programs at the Joint Genome Institute, where involvement spans multiple roles since February 2004, including Microbial Genome Program Lead and Senior Staff Scientist. Additionally, Tanja contributes as a Visiting Senior Scientist at the Laboratory for Research in Complex Systems and as an Adjunct Scientist at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences. Previous leadership experience includes serving as the EGSB Department Head for Functional Genomics at Berkeley Lab from 2018 to 2020. Tanja's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Genetics, and Pharmaceutical Biology, as well as a Diploma in Biology, both obtained from the University of Tübingen.
