Managing Director, Head of Capital Markets at Lafayette Square

Andy Phelps is the Managing Director and Head of Capital Markets at Lafayette Square. Andy has over 20 years of experience in the financial industry, including structured product development, syndication, and origination.

Phelps began their career at Goldman Sachs in 1998 as a Vice President. Andy then moved to Merrill Lynch in 2004 as a Managing Director of Structured Products. In 2009, they left Merrill Lynch to start their own company, FSI Capital, which was acquired by Stifel Nicolaus in 2010. Phelps served as the Managing Director of Structured Credit Products at Stifel until 2012 when they joined Natixis North America as the Managing Director of Syndication & Origination.

In 2017, Phelps left Natixis to join Black Diamond Capital Management as the Head of Structured Product Business Development. Andy held this position until 2021 when they joined Lafayette Square.

Andy Phelps attended Middleton High School and then went on to study Materials Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they earned their BS.

They are on a team with Joseph Johnson - Managing Director, Head of Liabilities, Susan Golden - Managing Director, Head of Loan Operations, and Seren Tahiroglu - Chief Financial Officer, Credit. Their manager is Phil Daniele, Chief of Risk Officer C-Suite.
