Tom McAnnally

Principal Engineer, Research at Lakeside Software

Tom McAnnally has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Tom started their career as a Software Engineer at HEM DATA in 1994, where they designed, developed, and maintained PC-based Real Time Data Acquisition Systems using C, C++, Visual Basic, and Delphi under Windows 3.1.x/95/NT. Tom then moved to Compuware (a.k.a. DynaTrace) in 1998, working as a Software Developer until 2001.

In 2000, Tom joined Lakeside Software as a Vice President of Engineering, where they were responsible for hands-on development of Systems Management tools for Windows Server and Desktop technologies. Tom played a key role in developing the SysTrack Agent and SysTrack deployment technologies, enabling rapid deployment of systems management agents to hundreds of thousands of systems within an intranet. Tom held this position till 2017 when they were promoted to the role of Vice President of Product Engineering.

At Lakeside Software, their responsibilities expanded to include researching new technologies for their strategic Cloud product offering, such as Docker, gRPC, Azure Service Fabric, Azure Reliable Storage, Redis Cache, and Protocol Buffers. During this time, Tom also optimized the Cloud architecture as the company's products shifted their focus to the Cloud more than on-premises.

Overall, Tom McAnnally has played significant roles in research, engineering leadership, and software development, with a strong focus on Windows technologies and Cloud architecture.

Tom McAnnally attended Oxford High from 1985 to 1989, during which time they did not pursue a specific degree or field of study. From 1989 to 1994, they furthered their education at Michigan State University, where they studied Computer Software Engineering and graduated with a degree in Computer Engineering.
