David Medyckyj-Scott's work experience includes serving as the Head of Data Management at Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research since April 2023. David also held the position of RPA Leader - Data Stewardship & Information Services at the same company from June 2012 to April 2023. Prior to this, they worked as the Technical Director at the National Land Resources Centre from January 2012 to April 2018 and as the Team Manager - Informatics at Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research from January 2010 to January 2012.

Before joining Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research, David Medyckyj-Scott served as the Manager of Research and Geo-data Services at EDINA National Data Centre from January 1997 to December 2009. David Medyckyj-Scott completed their education with a BA in Geography from the University of Portsmouth in 1983. David then pursued an MSc in IT (Human Factors) at Loughborough University from 1988 to 1989. In 1989, they obtained a PhD in Geography with specialization in Cartography and Psychology from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
