Michael Hobson has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies in the hospitality industry. Michael is the current CEO of Lanson Place Hospitality Management Limited since January 2019. Prior to that, they served as the Chief Marketing Officer / Chief Commercial Officer and Board Director at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group from May 1994 to December 2018. Michael played a pivotal role in establishing and strengthening the Mandarin Oriental brand worldwide and was responsible for the company's marketing vision, strategies, and management of various disciplines. Before Mandarin Oriental, they worked as VP Sales and Marketing at Omni Hotels Asia Pacific Ltd, where they led global sales and marketing activities and transformed the organization into a marketing-driven one. Michael also served as the Group Marketing Director at Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, where they developed and executed marketing strategies for multiple hotels and sales offices. Additionally, they held the position of Director of Sales and Marketing at GrandMet, where they oversaw the sales and marketing plans for various operating companies and successfully expanded the business in the UK, Latin America, North America, Africa, and the Middle East.
Michael Hobson earned their MBA in Marketing from the University of Leicester from 2001 to 2003. Prior to that, they attended Brighton Technical College from 1976 to 1978, Bishop Challoner School from 1974 to 1976, and St. Edmund's Canterbury, UK from 1971 to 1974. In addition to their degrees, they obtained the FT Non Executive Director Diploma from the Financial Times in November 2018.
