Galen Maloney

Associate Director of Housing at Larkin Street Youth Services

Galen Maloney has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. In 2004, they worked as a Teacher Naturalist at Catholic Charities CYO, where they stayed until June 2005. From 2006 to 2008, Galen founded and led Ballin on a Budget Bike Tours. They then joined Fred Finch Youth Center as a Residential Counselor in September 2010, a position they held until January 2012.

In 2009, Galen took on the role of VP and CoFounder at Nautical Torque Technology, a clean tech startup focused on renewable electricity. This role involved business development, grant writing, fundraising, and establishing partnerships.

Starting in 2014, Galen joined Larkin Street Youth Services. They began as a Residential Counselor, where they engaged young adults and assisted with personal and professional goal development. In June 2016, they transitioned to the position of Case Manager II in an innovative pilot program providing housing subsidies and support services to young adults. This role included program development, grant compliance, and evaluation. In July 2020, Galen became a Program Manager for the Pathways program until September 2022. Currently, Galen serves as the Associate Director of Housing at Larkin Street Youth Services. In this role, they oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of scattered site housing subsidy programs and provide leadership to program managers while ensuring effective and coordinated services for transitioning youth.

Additionally, Galen worked as a Project Manager at The People's Table from January 2015 to November 2021, where they successfully managed projects.

Galen Maloney obtained a high school diploma in General Education from Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in 1995. From 1995 to 1999, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Government at the University of California, Davis. Additionally, during the same period, they also earned a BA in Political Science and Philosophy from the University of California, Davis. In 2011, Galen was recognized as a Semi Finalist at Clean Teach Open. Lastly, from 2016 to 2019, they attended San Francisco State University and completed a Masters of Public Health degree with a focus on Community Health Education.
