Tara Maxwell serves as a Racial Justice Strategist & Coordinator at TN for Alternatives to the Death Penalty - DPIC since January 2021 and as a Tenant Organizer at the Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) since February 2022, focusing on tenant and community organizing. Prior experience includes roles as a Community Engagement and Outreach Officer with AmeriCorps VISTA, Political Coordinator for ATU Local 689 and Prince George's County Educators Association, and campaign staff for notable political figures such as Elizabeth Warren and Ben Jealous. Tara's background in domestic violence advocacy includes serving as a DV Advocate Manager/Victim Witness Coordinator for the Prince George's County Sheriff, and a legislative assistant with the Maryland General Assembly. A former Deputy Sheriff for Memphis and Shelby County, Tara holds three Bachelor of Applied Science degrees in Constitutional Law and Criminal Justice and Corrections from The George Washington University and The University of Memphis.
