Therese Llorente

Chair at Learning Ally

Passionate, focused, and mission-driven are some of the words used to describe Therese Llorente. As the National Board Chair for Learning Ally, Therese embodies the belief that all students have the right to equal opportunities in learning and education. In her role, she strongly advocates for equity in education and assists with fundraising activities. Therese believes that there has to be a dynamic, fundamental shift in the way we educate our students.

Therese comes from a professional background centered around the corporate environment. She formerly worked as an ESL teacher with Sony (Japan), was the director of business development with Shinwa Medical (Japan), and was a global sales manager for Geologistics. In these roles, she developed her passion for success, leadership abilities, and relationship-building skills. Her exposure to the business environment and local cultures on a global scale opened her eyes to higher possibilities and the importance of education.

Through personal experiences with her children and a desire to volunteer her time and expertise, Therese quickly became a champion for education when her daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia in the fourth grade. On this journey, she became a diligent volunteer in educational environments and schools. Therese then understood the challenges students across the country face every day and the lack of equity in the education system.

These experiences propelled her into service with Learning Ally and other government organizations, such as the Colorado Department of Education. She has become a revered champion for equity in education, especially in underserved communities. Through her tireless efforts, she has earned a solid reputation as an educational champion on a national scale.

Therese was born in Palo Alto, California. She went on to complete her bachelor's degree at UCLA. In her free time, she enjoys skiing, hiking, and spending quality time with her husband, three children, and pet dog.
