Huw is a Partner in Lee & Thompson’s Marketing & Advertising Group.
He joined the firm in August 2017 from a US law firm where he was head of the UK Advertising Law team. Before that, Huw worked in the legal team at the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising, where he advised a list of around 260 UK advertising agencies.
Huw has extensive UK and international experience advising clients on the full spectrum of general commercial related matters including all elements of sales and business development, regulatory investigations, commercial contracts, intellectual property, international distribution, digital, media buying and planning, talent and content acquisition, and sponsorship. He acts for global FMCG brands, national and international platforms, developers, advertising and creative agencies, industry associations, retailers, charities and start-ups in a range of industries.
He has undertaken secondments to key clients including McDonalds, Sara Lee and Heinz (covering the role of European General Counsel for seven months). On each secondment, he undertook a mix of sales and acquisitions, digital, advertising, IP and general commercial work, assisting various internal departments within those businesses, including sales, business development, marketing, legal, HR and strategy.
Ranked in independent directory Chambers & Partners, Huw is praised for being “highly responsive, pragmatic and very personable”. He is also recommended by Legal 500.
Huw also heads up the firm’s Inclusion Network reflecting his interest in diversity and inclusion. Huw is a founding and current board member of PrideAM, the LGBT network for professionals in the advertising industry, and a founding and current committee member of the LGBT Lawyers Division of The Law Society of England and Wales. Outside of work, he is an Ambassador for workplace equality charity, Stonewall, a Member of the Purple Circle of the Albert Kennedy Trust, and the Strategic Advisor for myGwork (the leading online recruitment and networking hub for LGBT professionals and organisations). He is also a Board Trustee and Non-Executive Director of international anti-bullying charity Ditch The Label.
Huw was ranked 72 in the outstanding Leading LGBT+ Executives List 2018, published in the Financial Times, and has recently been appointed to the Advisory Board of the Telegraph’s Diversity & Inclusion Conference 2019.
