Lizzie Payne-James

Partner, Music at Lee & Thompson

Lizzie is a Partner in Lee & Thompson’s Music Group.

Lizzie joined Lee & Thompson in June 2015 and represents a diverse range of clients from producers and rights companies to talent-side recording artists across the full spectrum of music industry contracts. Her particular specialism lies in supporting break-out artists in the UK grime music scene.

Lizzie has been ranked in her field in independent legal directory Chambers & Partners, which praises her industry knowledge in supporting emerging music acts. Clients say Lizzie is “a star in the making” who is “very smart and very hard-working”.

Lizzie read Chinese Studies at the University of Cambridge and lived in Beijing as part of her course. After completing her LLB, she trained at the international law firm Hogan Lovells and was seconded to the firm’s Hong Kong office for six months before completing her training in the firm’s Intellectual Property department. Upon qualification she decided to combine her vocation of law with her passion for music. She then spent over two years at a specialist music law firm, SSB, where she gained considerable experience working with talent, advising clients on all aspects of their careers before joining Lee & Thompson.
