Maria Thomas-Jones has extensive experience in legal services, primarily with Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, where Maria has served as Chief Executive Officer since April 2013 and previously as Deputy Director. Maria's responsibilities include implementing Board directives, overseeing senior management, managing personnel duties, and ensuring compliance with grants, in addition to addressing client complaints and training staff. From 1999 to 2013, Maria held positions as Supervising Attorney and Staff Attorney, focusing on family law, community outreach, and providing legal representation to victims of domestic violence. Early career experience includes serving as Associate Attorney at Locke Purnell Rain Harrell and Chapman & Reese, P.C., specializing in commercial and employment law. Maria holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Government from Miami University.

Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas provides free civil legal services to eligible low-income residents in 114 Texas counties. With offices in Abilene, Amarillo, Brownwood, Dallas, Denton, Fort Worth, Lubbock, McKinney, Midland, Odessa, Plainview, San Angelo, Waxahachie, Weatherford, and Wichita Falls, LANWT is the fifth-largest Legal Aid program in the United States. People can apply for help by calling our Legal Aid Line, online through our website, or by attending one of our many afternoon and evening legal clinics throughout our service area. Our staff and pro bono volunteers are committed to delivering effective and efficient legal help to qualified applicants. We also offer significant educational opportunities and experiences for high school, undergraduate, and law students, and welcome the help of members of our community who want to give back.
