Cecilia Alejo Rivas has a diverse work experience spanning multiple organizations and roles. Cecilia began their career as a Youth Program Worker at the Davenport Perth Neighbourhood Centre, where they provided support to youth. Cecilia then moved on to work at the Centre for Spanish-Speaking Peoples as a Program Manager & Counsellor, where they developed and implemented various programs for youth and managed staff members. Cecilia also served as the Program & Services Director at the Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples, where they oversaw program development and managed partnerships with various stakeholders.
Cecilia later joined the Canadian Training Institute as the Breaking the Cycle Internship Ambassadorial Program Manager, where they developed and implemented an employment program for youth. Cecilia also worked at the African Canadian Legal Clinic as a Social Justice Fellow, focusing on social justice issues.
In 2013, Cecilia joined Justice for Children and Youth as a Project Coordinator, where they developed a partnership between the agency and rural and remote communities. Cecilia conducted needs assessments, researched, and developed training and online material for youth and community workers on legal education.
Cecilia then worked at the University of Windsor as a Law Student, gaining experience in the field of law. Cecilia later became an Articling Student at Legal Aid Ontario, where they gained practical legal experience.
Cecilia'smost recent role at Legal Aid Ontario was as a Hybrid Lawyer, specializing in family and criminal law. Cecilia provided legal advice over the phone and referred clients to appropriate services and resources.
Throughout their career, Cecilia has demonstrated strong research, project management, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with various stakeholders.
Cecilia Alejo Rivas pursued their education starting in 2003 and completed their Bachelor of Social Work degree at Ryerson University in 2007. Subsequently, they decided to further their studies by attending the University of Windsor from 2011 to 2014, where they obtained a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree in the field of Law.
