Legal Services of Northern Virginia

Legal Services of Northern Virginia is a full service, nonprofit law firm that serves clients throughout Northern Virginia. It was established in 1980 by consolidating several existing local legal aid organizations into a regional service program. LSNV is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, federally funded by Legal Services Corporation, and by local governments in Northern Virginia, foundations, the private bar, and other donors. The mission of Legal Services of Northern Virginia is to provide free, high quality legal assistance to elderly, disabled, or low-income individuals and families who face the loss of a critical need such as personal safety, income, housing, medical benefits, education or family stability. LSNV seeks to provide equal access to the civil justice system for those residents of the City of Alexandria, the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William, and the cities and towns adjacent to those counties, who are unable to afford private legal counsel. LSNV provides services in a variety of substantive civil legal areas, including: family law, housing law, elder law, public benefits claims, access to health care, child advocacy, special education law, employment law, consumer law and AIDS/HIV issues. We also have specialized programs for veterans, survivors of human trafficking, and victims of crime, as well as a criminal re-entry program and the low income tax clinic. Staff and volunteers provide legal advice, brief service, and representation in administrative hearings and in court, as well as community legal education, and advocacy before local and state governmental entities, all without charge to our clients.
