Sheila Alvarado currently serves as a Lehigh County Commissioner since January 2024, while also holding the position of Legislative Assistant with the PA House of Representatives since September 2020. Additionally, Alvarado is a Board Member for the Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority since March 2020. Prior experience includes working as a Census Ambassador for Faces International in early 2020, where efforts focused on promoting 2020 Census participation in the Allentown Community. From April 2016 to May 2020, Alvarado was the Neighborhood Manager for the Community Action Development Corporation of Allentown, facilitating a revitalization plan for the Jordan Heights Neighborhood. Earlier roles include Office Support at Lehigh County Courthouse and Bilingual Account Representative at Telerx Marketing Inc. Alvarado holds a Bachelor's degree in Office Systems Administration from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras.

A bi-county, municipal Authority created in 1972 by Lehigh and Northampton Counties to operate public transportation services in the Lehigh Valley The Authority’s mission is to provide access and mobility designed to enhance the quality of life within the region through an organizational structure under which a wide variety of transportation services can be delivered. Services are to meet basic transportation needs, support desired economic and environmental goals, and appeal to an increasing number of people. Services are to be comprised of a range of types, provided directly or through contract. Services are to be provided responsibly and cost effectively within budget. LANTA manages fixed-route bus and door-to-door van transportation services within and between Carbon, Lehigh and Northampton PA counties. More than 16,000 passengers use the transit system in the Lehigh Valley. The majority of service is concentrated in the cities of Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton but service is available in all municipalities in the three Counties. Service operates 7 days a week approximately 18 hours per day. All major businesses, shopping centers, colleges, universities and schools, hospitals and medical centers and government buildings are directly served.
