Florian Schneider

Chair Professor Of Modern China at Leiden University

Florian Schneider is a Chair Professor of Modern China at Leiden University, specializing in politics, media, communication, and international relations within the PRC, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. With extensive experience in academia, Schneider has held various roles including University Senior Lecturer and University Lecturer, focusing on governance, political communication, and the modern Chinese economy. Since November 2018, Schneider has served as the Director of LeidenAsiaCentre and is also the Managing Editor of Asiascape: Digital Asia, an academic journal examining the impact of digital media in Asia. Prior to these positions, Schneider worked as a language editor for Brill and served as a project management assistant and policy advisor at the Senate of Hamburg's China Cooperation Office. Schneider holds a PhD in Chinese Studies from The University of Sheffield and a Master's degree in Sinology, Political Science, and Economics from the University of Hamburg.
