Jaap de Jong started their work experience in 1992 at Genootschap Onze Taal as an Editor / Redacteur. Jaap de then moved on to Leiden University in 2000, where they held multiple roles including lecturer in Modern rhetoric & Stylistics and Program director for Journalism and New Media. From 2004 to 2005, they worked as a researcher at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science on contract research projects.
Jaap de Jong studied at Leiden University from 1979 to 1988, earning a Master's degree in Modern Rhetoric (Taalbeheersing). Prior to this, they pursued Dutch language and literature as well as Rhetoric, though specific dates and degrees for this period are unknown.
