Julie Coates is the Sr. Vice President at LERN. Julie has been in this position since July 1986. Prior to that, they were the Director of Campus/Community Programs at Kansas State University from October 1976 to July 1986. There, they directed staff in developing non-credit courses for campus and larger community, wrote grants to fund special projects statewide, and created new marketing and branding initiatives. Before their time at Kansas State University, Julie Coates was the Administrative Manager at Cornell University from July 1974 to July 1976. There, they managed grant and contract budgets for the Department of Geological Sciences.

Julie Coates has a MS in Adult Education/Public Administration from Kansas State University, a City Planning/Public Administration from Cornell University, and a BA in American Literature/Spanish from North Carolina State University. Julie also has an English Literature degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Certificate in Program Planning from the Learning Resources Network.
