Dan Laine is a partner with the firm and is involved in virtually all aspects of IP practice. Dan works closely with clients to develop an understanding of their business and leverages such understanding in delivering prudent advice and tailored work product. Dan is tireless in his commitment to helping clients achieve their business goals.
Dan regularly assists clients in the development and execution of worldwide patent procurement strategies where he looks at all possible ways of adding value. Dan has significant experience in the management of complex patentability and freedom to operate studies. With his skills honed through such experience, and his experience in evaluating the IP ownership and obligations of various acquisition targets, Dan has been instrumental in the success of many due diligence investigations. In addition, Dan maintains versatility in his approach to the delivery of clearance opinions in order to best address anticipated future events and other factors unique to the commercial activity at issue. Beyond these areas, his practice also encompasses counseling clients on solutions to satisfy requirements under increasingly complex privacy laws.
Prior to law school, Dan, a professional engineer licensed in the Province of Ontario, spent many years as a civil engineer and was involved in the design and construction of projects across Canada. In particular, Dan designed and consulted on building projects in Vancouver and in the Canadian arctic, while also delivering on and offsite management for heavy civil transportation infrastructure projects in Toronto. Dan brought his dedication, hard work and excellence to law school, and was elected to the Order of the Coif upon graduating from Rutgers School of Law. While in law school, Dan was a Managing Editor of the Rutgers Law Review and served as an intern for the Honorable Paul J. Vichness in New Jersey Superior Court.
