Michael Mullen is an associate with the firm. His practice encompasses patent preparation and prosecution in the chemical arts and medical devices, as well as post-grant proceedings. His practice focuses primarily on domestic patent prosecution of battery technologies and adhesives.

Prior to joining Lerner David, Mike practiced in Houston, where he focused on foreign and domestic patent prosecution in chemical and pharmaceutical arts, patent preparation in downstream oil and gas processes, and patent preparation and prosecution for upstream oil and gas technologies and downhole tools, as well as federal trademark prosecution and IP legal research. During law school, Mike interned at the Rocky Mountain Regional Office of the USPTO, examining patent applications in the adhesives art unit under the supervision of a USPTO patent examiner.

Mike obtained his law degree at the University of Houston Law Center, where he was heavily involved in intellectual property coursework and activities. He was the External Vice President of the Intellectual Property Student Organization and Head Senior Articles Editors of the Houston Journal of International Law and also competed in events such as the Giles S. Rich Moot Court Competition and the Tom Newhouse Mediation Competition.

Mike studied chemical engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He worked on campus as a researcher, investigating causes of hysteresis during desorption of gases from zeolites. He was a member of the Chemical Engineering Honor Society. After college, Mike worked briefly in the biotech pharmaceutical industry as a design team member researching spray drying and lyophilization alternatives for freezing active pharmaceutical ingredients.

As a Colorado native, Mike enjoys winter sports, especially skiing and ice hockey. He also has a background in music and plays several instruments. In college, he was a Tenor Drummer in the Golden Buffalo Marching Band. He is currently an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).
