Dr. Sonia Schulenburg

Dr. Sonia Schulenburg has extensive work experience in the finance and investment industry. Dr. Sonia is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Level E Research Limited since October 2018. Prior to this, they were the Founder and CEO of Schulenburg Capital Limited from January 2014 until October 2018.

Dr. Schulenburg has also been involved with Level E Capital Limited, an investment company founded by her, where they served as the Founder and CEO from August 2009 to December 2013. During this time, they oversaw the launch of the Maya Fund and conducted market research to assess the potential of a fund capable of adapting to changing market conditions.

Before founding Level E Capital, Dr. Schulenburg established Level E Limited in March 2006, a research and development boutique that provided services to the investment management community. Dr. Sonia served as the Founder and CEO until May 2013, during which time the company received prestigious awards and research grants, leading to advancements in quantitative finance based on machine learning.

Dr. Schulenburg's career started at Grupo Financiero Banamex-Accival (ACCIVAL), where they worked in the Innovation Department from 1995 to 1996. Dr. Sonia then joined Edinburgh Napier University, where they held various roles. As a Principal Investigator, they led the Evolving Artificial Traders for Successful Market Trading Project, following their PhD work at Edinburgh University. Dr. Sonia was also a Senior Research Fellow for the Hyper-Heuristics Project and developed a learning system for real-world problems.

Additionally, Dr. Schulenburg was an Enterprise Fellow at the Royal Society of Edinburgh from April 2005 to May 2006, which provided support and training to launch Level E Limited.

Throughout their career, Dr. Sonia Schulenburg has demonstrated expertise in finance, investment, machine learning, and quantitative finance, with a strong focus on research and development.

Dr. Sonia Schulenburg has an extensive education history. Dr. Sonia obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México from 1990 to 1995. Dr. Sonia then pursued a PhD in Artificial Intelligence at The University of Edinburgh from 1996 to 2001. In 2002 to 2004, they attended Edinburgh Napier University, where they earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Corporate Strategy and Finance, receiving distinction for their performance.

Additionally, Dr. Schulenburg has acquired professional certifications in the field of finance and risk management. In 2012, they obtained a CF 30 (Customer) certification as a Portfolio Manager from the Financial Conduct Authority while working at Sturgeon Ventures LLP. In 2014, they obtained a CF1 Director (Appointed Representative) certification in Risk Management and Promotion from the Financial Conduct Authority while working at Schulenburg Capital Limited.
