Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence
Matthijs M. Maas is an esteemed expert in artificial intelligence governance, currently serving as an expert for the Global Commission on Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain under the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies. As a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Law & AI, Matthijs conducts research on global governance strategies for advanced AI. Additional roles include Research Affiliate and Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk at the University of Cambridge, Non-resident senior member and College Research Associate at King's College, and Associate Fellow at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence. Previous experience encompasses positions at renowned institutions such as the University of Copenhagen, University of Oxford, Global Catastrophic Risk Institute, and NewForesight. Matthijs holds an MSc in International Relations from the University of Edinburgh and various degrees related to politics, philosophy, and history from esteemed educational institutions.
