Ayra Hussain

Ayra Hussain began their work experience in 2021 as a Student Coordinator at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). In this role, they organized the Cristo Rey High School Service Learning site at UMBC, which included planning the tutoring sessions between a UMBC student tutor and a high school student from Cristo Rey Jesuit High School and collecting feedback from student and tutor after each session. That same year, they also worked as a Swimming Instructor at The Y (YMCA), where they taught children and adults from 6-months to 60+ years and had a valid CPR and lifeguard certification. Additionally, they worked as President, Assistant Speaker of Senate, and Senator for the UMBC Student Government Association. In 2022, Ayra Hussain became a Research Assistant at the Lieber Institute for Brain Development (LIBD) as part of the Amgen Scholars Program at Johns Hopkins University, and also a Research Assistant at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, where they gained clinical research experience as a research assistant learning more about cerebral palsy and chronic pain. Ayra also worked as an Undergraduate Researcher at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2021.

Ayra Hussain began their educational journey at Wilde Lake High School in 2018, where they completed their studies in 2019. Ayra then went on to the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where they are currently pursuing a dual degree in Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts with a focus in Pre-MDPhD/MSTP, and is expected to finish in 2023.
