Hai-Quan Mao

Hai-Quan Mao has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several prestigious institutions. Hai-Quan is currently the Director at the Johns Hopkins Institute for NanoBioTechnology, a position they have held since February 2022. Prior to this role, they served as the Associate Director of the same institute from January 2016 to March 2022.

In addition to their work at the institute, Hai-Quan Mao also co-founded LifeSprout, Inc. in August 2015.

Before joining the Johns Hopkins Institute for NanoBioTechnology and co-founding LifeSprout, Inc., Hai-Quan Mao had a long-standing affiliation with The Johns Hopkins University, starting in 2003. Hai-Quan held the position of Professor since August 2013, after being an Associate Professor from September 2009 to August 2013, and an Assistant Professor from April 2003 to September 2009.

Early in their career, Hai-Quan Mao was a Co-Principal Investigator at Johns Hopkins in Singapore from February 1999 to April 2003. Hai-Quan also worked as a Lecturer at Wuhan University from March 1993 to February 1995.

Hai-Quan Mao began their education in 1984 at Wuhan University, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Chemistry in 1988. Hai-Quan then continued their studies at the same university and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Polymer Chemistry from Wuhan University between 1988 and 1993. Following that, Hai-Quan Mao pursued further education at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where they served as a Postdoctoral fellow specializing in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from 1995 to 1999.
