Leonardo Zornberg

Senior Photonics Design Engineer, Laser at Lightmatter

Leonardo Zornberg is a Senior Photonics Design Engineer at Lightmatter since May 2025, focusing on the research and development of lasers in photonic integrated circuits. Previously, Zornberg served as a Photonics Engineer at Carillon Technologies from November 2021 to May 2025, contributing to the deployment of commercial technologies for government missions. A Graduate Research Assistant at the MIT School of Engineering from September 2016 to October 2021, Zornberg conducted research in optical processing of self-assembling nanoparticles, funded by an NSF award. Experience also includes a role as a researcher at Electroninks Incorporated, where Zornberg investigated particle-free conductive copper inks, and extensive undergraduate research at Caltech, which involved designing and fabricating an optical metasurface, leading to a provisional patent and a published article. Zornberg attained a PhD in Materials Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2021 and a bachelor's degree from Caltech in 2016.
