Manager, Exterior Body Systems at Lightship

Calvin Chang has a diverse work experience in the engineering field. Calvin is currently working as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Lightship since December 2022. Prior to this, they were employed at Lyft as an Engineer from August 2019 to November 2022. At Lyft, Calvin primarily focused on micro-mobility vehicle electromechanical systems, vehicle structures, integration, and bodywork. Calvin managed the design and development of the electromechanical locking module for Lyft's next-gen e-bike.

Before their time at Lyft, Calvin worked as a Senior Design Engineer at Lucid Motors from April 2016 to August 2019. At Lucid Motors, they primarily worked on vehicle structures and was involved in the development of the Formula E battery pack for Season 5. Calvin was responsible for complex structural parts and their integration with interfacing systems.

Prior to Lucid Motors, Calvin was a Design Release Engineer at General Motors from August 2014 to April 2016. In this role, they led the development of aluminum extrusions within the body structure for prototype builds, ensuring dimensional fit and quality met requirements. Calvin also utilized computer simulation results to select optimal aluminum alloys and gauges for extrusions and stampings, and integrated CAE and design inputs into body structure components.

Calvin began their engineering career as an intern at Boeing, where they gained experience in composites engineering and laboratory engineering. Calvin interned at Boeing in 2013 as a Composites Intern Engineer and in 2012 as a Laboratory Intern Engineer. Calvin also had an internship at VIZIO in 2011 as an Engineering Testing and Logistics Intern.

Throughout their career, Calvin has demonstrated a strong focus on design and development, particularly in the areas of vehicle structures and electromechanical systems. Calvin has a passion for innovation and working in fast-paced startup environments.

Calvin Chang attended the University of California, Berkeley from 2010 to 2014. During this period, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Materials Engineering.
