Debbie Morrell-Williams

Debbie completed both the LLB in 2011 and the LPC part-time at Manchester Metropolitan in 2013, graduating from the LLB with a 2:1 and the LPC with Merit and a Certificate of Commendable Practice. She was admitted to the roll of solicitors in October 2020.

Debbie has volunteered at Salford Young Offenders Team for 7 years as a Restorative Justice Mediator and a Referral Panel Member. She took her first legal position in 2013 Burton Copeland as a fee-earner in criminal law. Debbie completed further academic study in Mental Health Awareness and then she went on to be team leader in a busy Negligence Department at Stanton Fisher Lawyers in 2014. Debbie has worked solely in Court of Protection Law since 2016.

Debbie joined Linder Myers Solicitors in January 2018 as a Court of Protection Executive. Debbie makes applications to the COP for deputyship, lay deputyship, gifts and appointment of trustees, revocation of EPA’s, discharge of deputyship and one off applications to the Court of Protection and also makes applications for Health and Welfare deputies to be appointed and acts for the deputy where there are contested deputyship applications. Debbie also drafts LPA’s for property and affairs and Health and Welfare and PI Trusts.

Managing up to 90 complex deputyship matters which range from birth and brain injury settlements, to people who have very little, Debbie prides herself on being able to improve people’s outcomes regardless of their wealth by working closely with family, local authorities and charities.

With expertise in dealing with people with leaning difficulties, autism, dementia and mental health issues, Debbie specialises in matters where there are Health and Welfare proceedings ongoing and as such is referred matters from public law firms who deal with residence proceedings and DoLS challenges/authorisations on matters where a property and affairs deputy needs to be appointed. Debbie also has experience of managing client matters where the protected party is sectioned under the MHA, under Home Office Detention or where the protected party has had no recourse to public funds.

Debbie is routinely asked to make applications from Local Authorities who cannot act for the protected party due to conflict of interest in matters for example where there is CHC funding, Property to be sold for care fees, high value or complex estates or where the Local Authority does not have the capacity to act themselves.

Debbie has great knowledge of care funding and completes financial assessments on behalf of the team as well as her own clients and has knowledge of challenging CHC funding withdrawals and funded nursing care withdrawals.
