Jessica Horning

Citizenship Teacher at Literacy Minnesota

Jessica Horning joined Literacy Minnesota in 2010. She currently teaches citizenship at two Open Door Learning Centers- Lake Street and Northside. She loves helping her students achieve their goal of becoming US citizens and gaining the right to vote! If you visit her classroom, you will often find a celebration happening for a student who passed his/her interview.

After graduating from the College of St. Benedict, she spent a year volunteering in Colorado helping elementary school students learn to read. This is where she discovered her passion for teaching reading and writing. She got her Master’s degree in ESL from the University of Minnesota and taught high school ESL for a few years before joining Literacy Minnesota.

In her free time, she enjoys taking yoga classes, hiking with her family, walking with a friend, reading a good book, or writing in her journal.
