Tim Stephens has held various roles in the field of optics and imaging since 2003. In 2003, they were a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Heriot-Watt University, where they investigated gas-sensing technologies based on fibre-optics. In 2005, they were a Marketing Staff at Photonic Solutions Ltd. In 2006, they were an Imaging Scientist at Oxford Lasers Ltd, where they were responsible for all image-based analysis systems and support. In 2010, they founded SLT Instruments and was the Director, responsible for providing analytical instrumentation based on a high-resolution vision system for the analysis of immunological assays. From 2013 to 2020, they worked at Keit Spectrometers as the Lead Development Scientist, developing a static FTIR spectrometer from lab prototype to final product. Currently, they are the Technical Director and Projects Lead at Living Optics, responsible for the successful delivery of product development projects to their first customers and for developing key pieces of the optical and hardware systems.
Tim Stephens has an extensive education history. Tim completed their PhD in Physics from Heriot-Watt University between 2000 and 2003. Prior to that, they obtained an MPhys (Hons) in Physics from the same university between 1996 and 2000. Theiracademic journey began at Carluke High School, where they studied between 1990 and 1996. In addition to their academic qualifications, Tim Stephens also holds several certifications. These include a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from BQF obtained in August 2021, a Lean Six Sigma for Innovation and Design - Enhanced and a Lean Six Sigma for Product Design from Catalyst Consulting obtained in November 2016, and a BQF Summer School from BQF obtained in July 2017.
