Ian MacGregor began their career in 1997 as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Coast Guard. During their four years of service, they conducted search and rescue, maritime security, and drug interdiction missions from the Northwest Atlantic to the Caribbean Sea. Ian also served for one year in Washington, DC working on the Coast Guard's Coastal Patrol Boat procurement project and as a White House Military Social Aide. In 2002, MacGregor became the CEO of The Lobster Place, Inc., New York City's top seafood purveyor. Ian oversaw the company's flagship retail store, The Lobster Place Seafood Market, and its restaurant, Cull and Pistol Oyster Bar. The wholesale division operated a refrigerated processing and distribution facility in the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center and its fleet of trucks delivered to restaurants, caterers, cruise ships, and hotels throughout New York City, Westchester County, and Hudson County, NJ.
Ian MacGregor graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Government. Ian later obtained an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business in 2006, with a focus on Operations, Entrepreneurship, and General Management.
