Fred Higgs

Fred received a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee State University in 1995, and received his master's and doctoral degrees in 1997 and 2001, respectively, from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; all in mechanical engineering. He then completed a postdoctoral engineering fellowship at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2003. He has worked in academia for many years; 13 years as a mechanical engineering professor at Carnegie Mellon University and most recently as a Rice University mechanical engineering professor in various leadership roles. His wife and he serve on a small group leadership team at their church.

His children have attended Logos Preparatory Academy since 2018. As a parent of a Logos Prep student and a recent addition to the Logos Prep Board, Fred has enjoyed learning about the inherent blessings of the University-Model® school approach by watching his wife serve as the primary co-teacher. He believes that Logos Prep’s approach to blending formal instruction with parental shepherding and instruction is an ideal way to cultivate a robust biblical worldview in one’s children, while inspiring them to positively impact the world for Jesus Christ.
