Lok Capital
Venky Natarajan is the founder and partner of Lok Capital, a venture capital firm. Venky has over 25 years of experience in the technology industry, including stints at Intel Corporation and Paathshaala School. Prior to Lok Capital, Venky was the Strategic Investments Manager at Intel Corporation, where they were responsible for making equity investments in early-stage companies in the semiconductor development space.
Venky started their career as a design engineer at Intel, where they participated in the development of Pentium, Pentium II and Itanium microprocessors across Santa Clara, Oregon and Fort Collins sites. Venky then went on to become the Founder Director of Classic Computers, where they setup the company to develop and install database platforms for SMEs in textile manufacturing and auto parts distribution. Venky's last corporate role was as a management trainee at Steel Authority of India Limited.
In addition to their work in the technology industry, Venky is also an active philanthropist. Venky is a board member of several non-profit organizations, including the India School Leadership Institute and Agastya International Foundation.
Venky Natarajan has an MBA from Cornell University, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University, and a B.E. in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from Annamalai University.
Lok Capital
Lok Capital is one of the pioneering and leading "base of pyramid" focused impact investing venture capital funds in India. Lok funds high potential entrepreneurs developing market oriented solutions to solve socially or economically challenging problems for lower income/BoP segments. Founded in 2006 by Dr. Rajiv Lall (currently the Executive Chairman of IDFC) and Donald Peck (previously Head of South Asia for Actis), Lok Capital has a corpus of approximately USD 90 million across two funds. The Fund's investors are international development institutions, including CDC Group PLC (UK), IFC, KfW (Germany), FMO (Netherlands), Proparco (France) and ACCION Investments. The firm has so far invested in around 16 companies including Ujjivan Financial Services, Vistaar Financial Services, RuralShores, Drishti Eye Care, Everest Edusys and Hippocampus Learning Centres.
