Mariel Matthews

Mariel Matthews, MLS, currently serves as a Patron Services Librarian at Long Beach Public Library since January 2023, where responsibilities include assisting patrons with library services and participating in interview panels for part-time clerks. Previously, Mariel held positions as a Children's Librarian at The New York Public Library from May 2016 to January 2023 and at the Theresa Academy of Performing Arts from June 2013 to August 2018, focusing on reference and readers' advisory services, storytime planning, and educational programming. Additional experience includes roles as a School Library Media Specialist in Baltimore, various teaching positions in public schools, and a Graduate Assistant at Long Island University. Mariel holds a Master's of Science in Library and Information Science from LIU Post and has degrees in Special Education/Elementary Education and Mass Communications.
