Andy Person

Andy Person is the current Chief of Staff at Long Island University. Prior to this, they were the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness at Mercy College from February 2009 to January 2016. In this role, they led an institutional transformation initiative as co-leader alongside the vice president of academic affairs through the acclaimed Gardner Institute's Foundations of Excellence self-study. The initiative brought together faculty and staff across the institution and provided a framework for improvement of the entirety of the first-year student experience. They also led the Center for Student Success and Engagement and the college's flagship retention model, Personalized Achievement Contract (PACT), which achieved an average 15% increase in first-year PACT student retention. As a result, they received national recognition as 1 of 10 recipients of the Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate Award by the National Resource Center for the First –Year Experience at University of South Carolina in 2012. Additionally, they spearhead the collaboration between two leading forces of the national college completion agenda, Complete College America and the Andy'spanic Association of Colleges & Universities (HACU). Together, the collaboration agreed to work to significantly increase the number of Andy'spanics with college degrees and to close attainment gaps for traditionally underrepresented populations. Lastly, they led the government fundraising and advocacy efforts for Mercy College, helped secure $2.5 million from New York State for the construction of a new residence hall.

Andy Person completed a Bachelor of Science at the United States Naval Academy, a Doctoral Program in Business at Pace University, and a Master of Business Administration at Mercy College. Andy graduated from high school in 1991 from Episcopal Academy.
