James Sutherland

James Sutherland is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in public policy and advocacy. Currently serving as Chief of Staff and Director of Strategic Initiatives at Longwood Collective since November 2023, Sutherland previously held the position of Associate Vice President for Public Policy & Advocacy at the New England Aquarium from October 2021 to November 2023. Prior to that, Sutherland worked at the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce as Director of Policy & Research from April 2017 to October 2021 and served as Research Director in the Office of Boston City Councilor At-Large Ayanna Pressley from January 2011 to March 2017. In academia, Sutherland contributed as an instructor and teaching/research assistant in Northeastern University's Department of Political Science from June 2011 to May 2016. Sutherland holds a PhD and a Master of Arts in Political Science from Northeastern University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Emmanuel College (Boston).
