Amanda Gehring currently serves as the Acting Group Leader of ISR-8 at Los Alamos National Laboratory, focusing on Space Nuclear Sensing. Previous roles at the laboratory include Deputy Group Leader in ISR-1 and R&D Staff Scientist in the Space Science and Applications group, with an emphasis on nuclear particle detection, as well as Applied Materials and Weapons Science Team Leader and Postdoctoral Research Associate, where Amanda developed detectors for pulsed x-ray spectra. Amanda obtained a PhD in Nuclear Chemistry from Michigan State University, where research involved the development of an "RF carpet" for ion extraction from cyclotron gas cells. Earlier academic experiences include serving as a lab assistant and grader at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and providing math and science tutoring through the Rose-Hulman Homework Hotline.
