Dr. Fern Tsien

Dr. Fern Tsien serves as the Interim Chair of the Genetics Department and Assistant Dean for Medical Student Research at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans, where contributions include directing multiple research programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing diversity in science education. In addition to a robust role in medical education, Dr. Tsien has held various titles, including Tenured Associate Professor and Assistant Professor, focusing on genetics education across different academic levels and supporting underrepresented minorities in science. Dr. Tsien's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science from Tulane University, followed by a Ph.D. in Human/Medical Genetics from Tulane University School of Medicine. Prior experience includes a post-doctoral fellowship at Tulane School of Medicine, with a research focus on the cytogenetic and epigenetic mechanisms of specific syndromes. Current responsibilities extend to the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center as Associate Director of the Cancer Research Training and Education Center.
