Mairi Brookes is a seasoned professional in the energy and sustainability sectors, currently serving as the Smart Energy Systems Director at Low Carbon Hub since March 2021, focusing on the Local Energy Oxfordshire project. Mairi also holds director positions at Purpose Built Consulting Ltd and Westmill Solar Co-operative Limited. Previous roles include Sustainability and e-Mobility Advisor at Roadnight Taylor Ltd, Head of Transformation at Oxford Direct Services, and Sustainable City Team Manager at Oxford City Council, where Mairi led initiatives for city-wide carbon reduction and electric vehicle infrastructure. Mairi has extensive experience in policy development from positions at the Department of Energy and Climate Change and holds advanced degrees in leadership, environmental technology, and astrophysics from prominent institutions including Henley Business School, Imperial College London, and the University of Edinburgh.

*Environmental Social Enterprise of the Year 2022* The Low Carbon Hub is a social enterprise that’s out to prove we can meet our energy needs in a way that’s good for people and good for the planet. The days of fossil fuels are numbered. The shift to renewable generation is gaining pace and gives us the opportunity to reshape the way we manage our energy. We develop community-owned renewable energy in Oxfordshire. We do this in partnership with schools, businesses and community groups, at no cost to our partners. We raise money to build these projects through community share offers. To make these projects happen we offer people the opportunity to invest in us directly so their money can help consign fossil fuels to history. We re-invest 100% of our own surplus in our mission. We donate all of our surpluses to support further local carbon-cutting initiatives across Oxfordshire.
